So little time to blog these days, Inspirational Stores is firing on all cylinders, potential is formidable, but so are the challenges ahead !
This launch phase of a business is truly what thrills me. Indeed, having a vision is fine, and I believe ours is very right, but it's far from sufficient : building the company, the organization and a winning model out of a mere bold vision is extremely exciting.
Stepping back now a little from our business, there are 2 fantastic things about Inspirational Stores :
- I'm truly passionate about the project, significantly more than I was with Photoways back in 1999. Whereas Photoways was simply "importing" a concept from the US (I then was a customer of printroom.com, one of the very early online lab back in 1998), what we now want to achieve at Inspirational is innovative, unique and extremely ambitious.
- Day after day, I meet and I do business with great people who also are passionate about what they do. It's not only business between us, it is also about sharing a common vision and a common ambition to fulfill great and beautiful things.
My goal is not and has never been to make money, it's sure nice to be wealthy, but frankly I don't have the faintest interest in making money with something that bores me. Simply put, a profitable but boring business is of zero value to me life-wise.
In the same field, what's the point in making money with a nice little short term "coup", kind of windfall profit not based on a solid and sustainable business that you have patiently built over the years ? What's really the point in thinking "hey how smart I was in selling my crappy business to stupid guys ?"
What a bad dream would it be if I had to wake up one day and think that, though wealthy, I have wasted my time in not doing what I loved (have a look again on that post) or not doing beautiful things. So far, at least over the last 12 years since I left the corporate world (PepsiCo), I've been lucky enough to what I love to do !
I'm fortunate enough that with hindsight I'm both proud and happy about the past years, simply because I did what I wanted to do and what I loved.
And that's all which matters after all.
Kawasaki says that the best motivation and incentive for an entrepreneur should be to "change the world"... Well, I am sure that "do what you love" is also a very good reason!
