When in France, I wasn't very impressed by the iPhone's positioning precision, even inside Paris. As Steve Jobs mentioned in his keynote, Apple's triangulation partner Skyhook is just coming to Europe and putting the hotspots in their database (Google is doing the same thing with cell towers and Apple is using both information). As it is not fully completed yet, it can only be approximative.
But here in US, or at least in New York City,the positioning is extremely precise as you can see from the picture : easy to guess where I am (the one who can't is not a regular reader of that blog !).
I tried the feature in different locations in Manhattan and it was all the time exactly where I was situated.
